Who We Are
This is the University of South Carolina's Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Equestrian team. We offer levels ranging from Walk/Trot to the Open level. Tryouts are held every fall and on occasion during the spring semester, and new riders are always encouraged to try out. Our team provides a productive and friendly horse show experience for equestrians of every level and background.
We ride at Three Fox Farm (Blythewood, SC, www.threefoxfarm.net ), under the training of Angela Macfawn and assistant trainers Teresa Macfawn and Jessica Lang. Horses are provided by the barn, and we have one lesson and one hack per week. There are also two team practices per semester that allow our riders to prepare for horse shows by creating a "mock" competition. We have a talented set of schooling horses that provide our riders with a wide range of obstacles and lessons to be learned. Every horse has something to teach, and are valued greatly in contributing to our success.
A description of how IHSA horse shows are run can be found on the IHSA website www.ihsainc.org. Riders are initially placed in a specific level based on their riding background, and are given the opportunity to earn points at each competition to move up. The levels include Walk/Trot, Walk/Trot/Canter, Novice, Intermediate, and Open. Once a rider places out of a level, he/she becomes eligible to compete in regionals. Riders have the chance to move on to Zones and Nationals, which take place at the end of the show season. We encourage participation from riders of every level, as we hope to maintain a diverse team of all levels of talent.
Our team's mission is to not only be competitive, but to be all around equestrians and show a higher standard of sportsmanship. We have created our own little family, and hope to build friendships that last a lifetime. We are always looking for new members to join our group and continue our legacy.
If you have any questions regarding our team or want to know more, please feel free to contact us at soequest@mailbox.sc.edu. We are always open to tours of our barn, and would love to meet any perspective riders.
